Case Study: CompleteHeat self-contained Boiler Unit, Barnside

District Heating Scheme, Scottish Borders

.

The CompleteHeat unit with silo at our 2012 show stand

This district heating system is being installed at the time of writing, so more information and photos will follow in due course.

Who

The system will be operated by Charlie and Andrea Walker who farm at Barnside.  Woodchips will be provided by Willie Dobie of Abbey St. Bathans Estate, the owner of the system, from Abbey Timber sawmill.

What

This installation features one of our custom built CompleteHeat boiler rooms with a Veto 75 woodchip boiler coupled to an 8cum
Veto 8 woodchip silo.

How it will work

This district heating scheme will heat a traditional, stone built 4 bedroom farm house and a separate terraced row of three cottages.  The properties will be heated by underground proprietary insulated district heating pipe from the remote boiler room located 80m from the farmhouse and 100m from the cottages.

Each property will retain its own individual heating system and will be linked to the district scheme by its own heat exchanger.  Heat meters will be installed in each property to monitor how much heat it uses from the district scheme.

Operation

The silo will be filled with a front end loader from a bulk chip store in an adjacent farm building.  Small diameter timber will be dried in the round on-site and chipped into the bulk store at 3-6 month intervals.
